The elevation is the trick

The swings sit above grade, so visitors look over rails and obstructions instead of through them. That simple elevation creates the feeling of hovering in the river corridor.

The view is double-loaded

From the porch, the Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge are both part of the same mental map. The swings turn a passive view into a short, physical waterfront ritual.

The design stays public

Pier 35 works because the swings are not isolated attractions. They sit beside lawns, Mussel Beach, seating, and the green wall, so visitors can move between rest, ecology, and skyline.
